Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Someone left their poor bike all alone for someone to take. Your bike is now in my living room, crying softly, waiting for you to come and claim it. It's so sad...

One of two bikes that was in our backyard leaning against the house. Both the front and back gates were locked, and showed no sign of damage. Assuming that someone jumped the fence.

Bike was stolen from the bike rack just west of Lower Michigan Avenue and just north of the River.

Bike was locked in the middle of the other two other bikers I was with. 3 hours later, came back my bike was gone and the other two bikes were still atached to the rack. Bike rack was located right near the double decker tour booth on the corner of Randolph and Michigan Ave.

Both bikes were chained together with a Giant SureLock heavy duty chain. They were secured around a metal pole that holds up our deck, so it couldnt be moved. The chain was taken with the bikes, which leads me to believe that they have some sort of way of picking the lock. We loved those bikes and I hope someone catches those jerks.

Happened on a very busy street while I was at work, I'd checked on the bike twice before...third time I came out it was gone.

Burglars entered Albany Park apartment through rear window off back porch, which they may have accessed by scaling wooden fence between apartment building back patio and the neighbor's yard, between 9:40 am and 5:30pm. The thieves took all electronics (3 laptops, 2 I-Pods, and a Kobo e-reader), some jewelry, a maroon Chicago Golden Gloves title belt, and another bike (a dark blue Specialized Hardrock SS) in addition to the one in this report. The burglars also took a gray Everlast gym bag, presumably to carry the stuff, and it seems as though they left via the front door. Front door to apartment was unlocked when I arrive home and the rear window was open but not enough to allow a human to exit.

The burglars entered Albany Park first floor apartment through a rear window off the back porch, having gotten into the locked back patio area, possibly by scaling the wooden fence between the apartment building and the neighbor's yard between 9:40 am and 5:30 pm on Friday, July 13. They took all electronics (3 laptops, 2 I-Pods and a Kobo e-reader), a maroon Golden Gloves title belt, some jewelry and two bicycles, including the one in this report and a 15" red Specialized Hardrock 21-speed mountain bike. They stole a gray Everlast gym bag to carry the stuff and appear to have left via the front door; front door to apartment was unlocked when I arrived home.

I locked my bike to two thick steel cables in the parking garage at 77 W Huron at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jule 13. It was missing, along with the lock, at 7:45 a.m. On Sunday, July 15.

I left the bike in my locked garage before leaving for a weekend trip Friday evening. Upon returning around 10:30 Sunday morning, the garage door was open, the small window on the side of the garage was broke and the metal grate behind the window had been pushed in and was laying on the ground. Nothing else was taken or touched from the garage.

Bike was unlocked, but behind an 8 foot tall locked fence. Unfortunately bike was visible from alley. Bike was only left unattended for under 45 minutes.

Bike was U-locked in back cove of apartment, behind large gate, not in view from alley. Locked to wooden fire escape; they broke the wood off and slipped the ulock under it.

I ride my bike each day to the UIC Art & Architecture building where I am enrolled in a summer class. For the past week I have locked my bike at the same place, on a small bike rack (two humps) on the west facing side of the A+A building. My bike lines the sidewalk. The campus is very empty, and I see few people passing the building during the day along with students from the A+A building who are often outside and would react to anything suspicious. There was one other bike locked to the rack, much older and in poor condition. There was no sign of someone struggling to take my bike. The bike was taken between 1pm and 5pm, in broad daylight apart from a torrential downpour in the afternoon. I use a very strong lock, the Bordo folding, and I would imagine that someone would need to be equipped with the right tools to break the lock, but in broad daylight that would be difficult to do without being noticed.

I saw the my bike when I came home around 6pm Friday night. I wanted to go for a bike ride this (July 14) morning around 11am and the bike was gone along with the lock.

The bike was locked to a bike rack in front of an office building at 303 E. Wacker Dr. I saw the bike at approximately 2:10pm on Friday, July 13, 2012. However, upon leaving the building at approximately 4:30pm the bike and lock were gone. It was pouring raining rain for a portion of those 2hrs so I'm guessing the thief either transported the bike in another vehicle or took it within an hour of the rain stopping and me exiting the building to find it missing.

Bike was in a locked storage unit of our condo complex. Likely someone left the door open.
