Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Locked bike at Glenview metra station on rack south of station. Not there when I got back that evening. Note photo is generic photo of this model, not my specific bike, but colors are same. This is the closest rack to the station platform. I suspect someone got off the train, cut the cable, and took the bike back on the train. I ordinarily use a different bike rack.

My boyfriend and I just fixed my bike because the rear wheel was stolen about a month ago. So, to celebrate having a working bike again we went rode the path to the Lincoln Park Zoo. I'm a grad student and he's temporarily employed so we like to explore our new city doing cheap activities. The free zoo seemed to be a great option...Anyway, we locked it to his cheaper bike in a well-populated area near the entrance. We locked the frame and both wheels to his bike and to the bike rack. When we returned about 2 hours later we saw it definitely was not there, then saw the cut cable. It was not a typical cable that had a padlock attached to it; this was a much thicker cable lock we actually used to secure some of our exposed belongings in the bed of his truck when we moved. Needless to say, it was a horrible sinking feeling and my first words were "I don't care about bikes anymore, I don't want to talk about them or have another one." This broke his heart since he loves riding bikes and was so happy to expose me to something I truly enjoyed...of course I didn't mean what I said, I love biking, I was just so upset...I miss my bike and having that fun activity to do with him.

Bike was locked up right outside an open bar with people sitting down at outside tables mere feet from the bike rack. Went down the street to grab dinner at 8pm, when I returned at 9pm, the bike and lock had been stolen, no one recalled seeing the missing bike.

Bike was left locked in front of home overnight, and disappeared by morning.

Someone watched me lock my bike and monitor what I was doing. I was helping my friend move into him new apartment at the location in which the bike was stolen. I locked the bike up in front of the building as I and my friends were hauling his items into the building next to the location the bike was locked. The bike was 15 feet from the door we were using. In the 30-45 minutes we spent hauling his things into his new place the bike was stolen.

Bike was left under the Clybourn Metra station on Ashland, locked to a bike rack, between 8am and 3pm. U-lock and separate cable lock were cut through - clean cuts- and left at the scene. Thief also removed my basket. A couple months ago my seat was stolen from same place. Last week a nut was missing from my front tire - probably tampered with.

I ran in to CVS to grab a stick of deodorant. I took the light and seat bag off the bike before I was running in. I couldn't have been in the store more than two minutes. When I went to take my money out of my bag to pay, I realized that I had forgotten to put the lock on the bike. I ran out of the store immediately. My bike was gone. No one saw anything.

Found my garage door up last Sunday Morning. Two bikes and some tools were stolen. Reported to the police. My son's bike was the one I cared about. Brand new and he loved it.

Stolen from the rack out front of the Western Brown Line stop. In the rain. Sucks!!!

Bike was locked to a tree in front of my apartment. across from Lane tech. Stolen between last night or this morning.

Bike was stolen out of my garage between the dates of Sept 19th, and Sept 28th.

Bike was found missing from inside the door of my apartment - suspect door may have been left open/unattended.

Was sitting inside Red Eye coffee shop all day with bike locked to rack directly across street. Came out and it was gone.

I locked the bike to a parking sign pole at Clark and Barry. I did not realize that the pole was not attached securely to the ground. I was in a rush and did not check the condition of the pole.

Left my bike parked overnight in front of my residence on the 3200 block of W. Irving Park Rd and Christiana. Came back the following morning, Sunday (Aug 29th) and it was gone. No police report filed yet. No witnesses.

I just completed a lakefront ride with a friend who borrowed my Jamis Touring bike. We arrived back at my garage at 7:30 a.m. and locked both bikes in garage, as i always do. We went in the house, showered and went back to the garage at 8:30 to use my car to go to work. The garage door was kicked in and the only things missing were the 2 bikes. I just spent $3,000.00 upgrading the bike and am sick about it. I did file a police report.

Bike was locked up in the courtyard of 1555 Sandburg Terrace on afternoon of 8/31 and was missing at 8AM on 9/1. I suspect the lock was picked.

The Cable was probably cut and Taken along with the bike.

I left my bike locked to a fence in front of my friends apartment (first time I had been over) and I believe the lock was cut with a battery operated saw.
