Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I noticed my bike missing when I came back to my apartment one day. I had it parked in my apartment's parking lot, which requires a key to be accessed. I suppose I was lucky it was not stolen earlier; it was unlocked all summer. I believe someone climbed up the fence, then walked it out, because you only need a key in, not a key out.

Someone took my bike out of my closed garage and had to enter my backyard to do so. I am really sad about it!

Bike was in the garage since about August 19th. Discovered it missing on August 29. No sign of forced entry into the garage (shared garage)

Left it locked outside of my friend's and wasn't there when I came back

Bike was locked outside of apartment building. Went missing overnight. No sign of lock or bike.

Bike was in a storage/bike room that had intermittent door problems (lock on the door was continually broken and fixed). The bike storage system in the building used these cables attached to the wall with a loop at the other end to slip a lock through. I had a U-Lock going through the front tire, the loop, and my frame and a cable lock going around the back tire and the frame (locking the tire to the frame). The system was defeated by the prying open of the loop. No evidence of locks left behind - assume that they carried the bike off to an alternate location to dismantle locks later.

Bike was left in front of busy library during rush hour near a library guard, next to 7-8 other bikes, and in front of people talking on cell phones during rush hour traffic in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Guard refused to offer assistance (including her cell phone to file the police report) and police officer was similarly helpful.

I had locked my bike to the railing attached to the concrete wall around the tunnel access below. It was right next to the ticket booths for the avp pro volleyball tournament being held that day, and right alongside the cycling/running trail along the shoreline. When I came back out from the tournament, my bike and lock were both gone. I checked the whole area and did not see any signs of the lock.

Discovered bike missing this morning. The bike had been kept next to the stairs behind two sets of locked doors into my apartment building. It's a 20 year old bike, probably not worth much, but important for me for bringing my kids places.

The bike was on the 2nd floor back porch of a 2-flat, surrounded by a yard and 8-foot-high wooden fence. The bike was not locked. It is believed the thief came through a neighbor's back fence, then hopped the shorter change link fence between the yards in order to get into the backyard of 1033. The bike has brush guards on the handlebars and the brakes were fairly worn down. A clear-backed "Ironman Triathlon" decal on the front handlebars is partially worn away from having my U-Lock resting on it and rubbing it off.

*The bike was stolen from the bike rack in the parking garage at Swedish Covenant Hospital. <br> *I made a few changes to the bike since taking this picture, but, essentially, this is the way the bike looks. The changes include: A rear "Tubus" brand rack & red "backpack style" pannier on the back.<br> *Although difficult to see in this picture, the bike has a somewhat unique "front rack" on it, a "CETMA 5 rail" rack. In this picture, the wicker basket is sitting on the rack. The thief has probably easily removed the large front wicker basket by now.<br> *The CETMA rack has left a few paint chip scars on the right and left sides of the top tube which should, forever, be an identifying marker of my bike.<br> *The front rack, front tire and seat post have a unique locking system, a "Pitlock" system, on them which will make either difficult to remove without the unique bolt "key" which is in my possession, i.e. good luck raising and lower the seat, thief! ;)<br> *A report has been filed with the Chicago Police and Hospital security. FYI, Hospital security told me thefts have been occurring "a lot" from their bike racks. The bike was in a garage that opened onto an alley. I had left it there that afternoon to borrow a friend's car; at 11pm I opened the garage, backed the car partway in, then ran through the garage to get a pair of tires I'd left in the alley next to the house. When I returned (a minute, tops) my bike was gone, and I saw wet footprints (it was raining) on the passenger side of the car, where I hadn't walked.

Was there in the am when son went to empty trash in backyard between 10 andd 11 am. Back gate was chained. Bike was cabled (HEAVY CABLE) to fence . Lots of greenery and covered by gray tarp. Came home beach @ 3:30 and bike was gone. Cable cut and left behind. I know this bike inside and out. Have trained hunting dog, attempting tracking. Dog knows bike well. Am contacting all pawn shops/bike shops/etc.

Bike was stolen in front of BestBuy. I was just max 20 minutes in the store. Tons of people around. Must have been a professional.

I left the bike locked to the street sign on sunday night and when i went back to get it tuesday morning it was gone, along with the lock.

My bike was locked up with a u-lock to an iron-bared window inside the courtyard of my apartment by means of the back wheel (with a U-lock). I believe someone entered the courtyard in the early morning, undid the back wheel, and took the rest of the bike outside through the gate of the courtyard. I noticed another wheel in the same situation as mine. The bike in the picture is like my bike, only green instead of red and minus the back wheel.

I think someone was in the neighborhood and saw my bike. Its a great bike, and bmx is really popular around my neighborhood. The interesting thing is, the bike lock was still attached to the fence, meaning the lock was picked.

I also had a Cannondale Capo bike, and an old Trek mountain bike stolen... 3 total. Thieves were described to me as 3 African-American males dressed "like Mormons" going door to door during the middle of the day. They then climbed through the window of my apt and took the bikes and some booze.

Stolen right in front of city workers anda group of 4 people. They watched him break my lock and take my bike 15 minutes before I walked outside.He could barely ride it because of the wheel base and it takes time to learn to ride
