Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I locked my bike on the west side of Kindred North Hospital to the "no parking" sign closest to Montrose Ave [bike was on Rockwell Ave] at 6:55am and went inside to work. When I came out of the building at 4:30pm, the bike was missing and half of the wire lock was left on the ground. Bike is in excellent condition, has a rear bike rack with a collapsable black basket on the right side of the rack. There are pieces of twine attached to the basket. I had not made any other significant alterations. The bike has not been in any accidents, and aside from some light scratching on the lower edge of the frame from my u-lock, there are no other scratches or dents. [was not aware a bike rack os located on east side of building in parking lot, and u-lock key was with other half downtown.... sadness]

The thief came up my stairs in the middle of the night and stole the bike from the balcony. Broke the fence to get it with the lock (newer u-lock w/flat key).

My bike was in a locked private garage. I think that the garage door kicked back open after a car left and someone walked in and took it.

Left the bike locked to the bike rack. It was on a super busy street in front of the lincoln park bourdwalk cafe. went to get lunch. was gone for 30 min.

I locked my bike up to a metal railing/fence on the side of the Jason's Deli building (there wasn't a place to lock it up in front). I placed a to-go order and was gone for, at most, 15 minutes. When I came out, I saw that my bike was no longer on the railing/fence.

I was eating at noodles and company on Broadway (near Diversey and Clark) when I saw a cut my cable lock and take off with my bike. I chased after him briefly but he continued to head east down Diversey. The theft was male, African American, tall, wearing a tattered gray sweatshirt and pants. In between 30 or 40 years of age. I could see that he had short cornrows.

Lcoked bike up outside of Village Cycle entered store and returned 45 minutes later to bike missing. :(

Bike was stolen from inside a locked garage. Side door to garage was kicked or bashed in, breaking door frame. Old mountain bike in very poor condition was left at the scene. Police officer's guess is that this was probably stolen, too.

I locked my Bicycle up at the upstairs Bike racks of the Belmont Blue Line Stop(around 9:00 am). I then went to work via the train. When I came back to the Bike racks after work (around 5:30 pm) the bicycle as well as the lock was missing.

I had my bike stolen this morning (Wednesday, August 22nd) between 8:10am and 9:00am. It was locked on a pole with a Kryptonite U-lock on Milwaukee Ave. and Haddon in Wicker Park. It is a 2010 Trek Soho. It is slate black. I have the serial number for it. I purchased it at Village Cycle on Wells, and it probably still has that sticker on it. I had the handle bars cut so they are around 3 inches on each side. I had a Planet Bike Beamer 3 LED light on the front, and a red Planet Bike light on the back of the bike. I also had a black kickstand added to the bike. I'm not sure how the bike was stolen because the lock was missing along with my bike.

My bike was stolen sometime between 3 am and noon on Aug 22nd. It was locket to a iron fence with a combination cable lock

I lock my bike BEHIND a security fence at the back door of my apartment. I locked it with a heavy Kryptonite security chain, through the frame and rear wheel, around the largest support post of the fence. The chain was cut and the only evidence was a single broken link left behind. I think someone did not ensure that the security gate was fully closed, and that the thief was able to come around to the side the bike was locked on and cut the chain. Bike has front and rear reflectors as well as an led taillight. I discovered it was stolen when I got home this afternoon.

i keep my bike in a locked back common area where all my neighbors porches are. i park the bike under a porch and out of view from the back entrance, and while although it was locked to itself, they stole mine and left 2 unlocked bikes beside it untouched.

Locked bike up to tree outside apartment, went to ride it in the morning the bike was stolen with the lock sitting next to the tree, the lock had been cut through

I rode it to the gym and locked to the bike rack in front of the building. When I left the gym about an hour later it was gone.

Bike was chained to a metal fence on Damen Ave. overnight and was missing in the morning.

It was locked outside of Union Station but on the property of Fifth 3rd. Bank. They left nothing behind. The security officer from bank came out to see if i was ok...i was crying like a baby. i wanted to ask her to review security footage but i was too upset. I also used a blue/red bungie cord to secure the bike from any movement...it was real tight.

I locked my bike in the parking lot of the Clybourn Metra station at 6:30am. There's a bunch of bike racks underneath a shelter. When I returned at 6pm the bike was gone and a new bike was already parked in its place. Half of the lock was on the sidewalk. They had cut through the U lock just under where it connects to my bike when it's stored for riding.
