I have a bum leg and can't really walk around; this bike was the only way I could get around. Sorry, I only have a stock photo. The bike was less than two-weeks old, so I never really got around to taking any pictures.

Mercier Kilo TT - Chrome

Location

Uptown/Andersonville - Residential
4851 N. Magnolia
Chicago , IL
United States

Date of Theft

Friday, March 25, 2011 - 5:30pm

Basic Bike Info

Bicycle Type:
Fixed Gear / Track Bike
Size:
50cm c-t/30" standover
Color:
Chrome
Condition of Bicycle / Distinguishing Features:
This chrome edition Kilo TT was less than a year old and in excellent condition. Unlike other Kilo TT's it is completely chrome, no markings whatsoever to it's make/model, but basically is a super shiny silver track frame/bike. All black seat (unlike in picture), black taped drop bars, black toeclips and straps. I only had the front brake installed. It is not built of the best components so hoping it isn't being sold in parts... and if is being ridden around, it is very noticeable.

Lock Information

How was the lock defeated?:
Lock is missing, along with the bike.
Lock Type:
Newer U-Lock w/ Flat Key
What was the bike locked to?:
Locked to street sign.

Incident Description

Which type of area was your bike stolen from?:
Front of building in residential area.
How was the bike locked?:
Locked through front wheel and frame to object.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
From 10:30 PM to 5:30 AM it was unnattended.
Incident Description:
I locked my bike on a street sign I usually don't use- I either use one closer or most of the time bring it upstairs with me. I figured I was leaving for work at 5:30 AM, it would be ok... but it was gone when I left for work. It was kind of under a street light, so I'm sure it stood out. I'm assuming it was just lifted up and over the street sign pole- I'm kicking myself for ever using it in the first place.

Sidewalk in front of an open business.
How was the bike locked?:
Locked through rear wheel and frame to object.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
10 minutes
Incident Description:
Went into Chase Bank at approx. 2:45pm, broad daylight, business district street with many passing pedestrians and cars. Was inside 10 minutes max, when I returned to the sign to which I had cabled the bike, my cable was cut and bike was gone. Oddly a silver aluminum "Magna" dual-suspension mountain bike that was not there when I locked my bike was left leaning against the newspaper vending machines only 3 feet from where my bike had been stolen. Police and I suspect the thief "traded up." The silver Magna--which was brand new, complete with store sticker and chain that still had the original factory grease on it--was taken by the Oak Park Police Department. If the Magna is yours call Oak Park Police to recover.

2010 Cannondale CX9 CAAD9 Cyclocross bike

Location

Hairitics Salon
2340 N. Milwaukee Ave

Date of Theft

Thursday, March 24, 2011 - 1:15pm

Basic Bike Info

Bicycle Type:
Road Bike
Serial No.:
U070610
Size:
52 CM
Color:
all black with white details and lettering
Condition of Bicycle / Distinguishing Features:
This bike is a 2010 Cannondale CX9 CAAD9 Cyclocross bike size 52cm. It is one year 4 months old (bought it in November 2009), it looks new with very few signs of wear, no significant scratches or dents or otherwise odd nuances (the brake pads are severely worn down, and there was a lot of winter dirt and grime on it when it was stolen). It is all black with white details and lettering. I have built it with a custom parts pick, it is not and off-the-shelf bike. Its distinguishing parts and features are; Easton carbon-fiber fork painted to match bike, a black Arione Fizik saddle, carbon-fiber Tru-Vativ seatpost, RaceFace Revolution bar, Easton EA70 stem, Avid Shorty's (Cyclocross Canti's), Sram Red, Force, & Rival drivetrain > 10speed, handbuilt wheels (by me) > silver Mavic OpenPros with 105 hubs > 32 hole, black SKS full fenders, Conti 700X28 Gatorskin tires, the front skewer is a PitLock locking skewer, the headset spacers are on the top of the stem, and old school SR Sakae Low Fat MTB pedals (the bronze ones, way broken in). Last but not least it has a little rubber gasket that I placed between the bottom side of the headtube and the fork crown to seal off the lower bearings in the headset, which is very discreet. In my opinion this is a very very nice Cyclocross bike turned heavy-winter commuter style bike.

Lock Information

How was the lock defeated?:
Lock is missing, along with the bike.
Lock Type:
Older U-Lock w/ Round Key
What was the bike locked to?:
Locked to street sign.

Incident Description

Which type of area was your bike stolen from?:
Sidewalk in front of a closed business.
How was the bike locked?:
Locked through rear wheel and frame to object.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
1 to 1.5 hours. The bike was locked up at 5.30 pm on March 24th, and I came out to get it at 7pm when I saw that it and the lock were gone with no signs otherwise of break-in
Incident Description:
I locked up at 5.30pm on March 24th on the south west side of Milwaukee. It was locked up about ten feet northwest of the entrance to Hairitics Salon. Ten feet north of Hairitics is a closed business store front. I locked up the rear wheel and frame to a sign for paying the parking meter (one of the new paybox signs that the new meter boxes need). I did not lock up the front wheel because it has a Pitlock locking skewer, which doesn't "require" a lock on its own. I left from my appointment at 7pm and the bike and lock were gone. It was an older style Kryptonite U-Lock.

Locked bike in front of the Depaul library Monday. Finished studying, walked out smiling with helmet in hand and looked at the empty bike rack then left...then right..."mmm, that's funny, I thought I put it there." After the moment of bewilderment, was struck with a punch to the gut as I realized it was gone... It was a cable lock with a masterlock combo. I new it wasn't the best lock which is why I don't leave it outside normally...pretty sure someone had bolt cutters and swiped the bike after a quick snip. bummer

Incident Description:
This bike was stolen along with an old red cruiser bike (fairly battered) from our private fenced-in yard. It had been there since 8 pm last night. The fence is a privacy fence (not chain link) so someone must have been in the yard OR peering through the cracks in the fence trolling for bikes to steal. We have certainly learned our lesson - that bikes must be locked at all times (even in the privacy of our yard) but my son is heartbroken as he had received this bike for his birthday.

I went in at about 10:15 AM, and when I came out at 11:30 AM it was gone. Note that the picture I posted is a commercial image of the bicycle, not mine--though it is what mine looks like, minus the rack. I have photos of mine but they're at home and I had to come straight to work. That's also why I can't post the serial number at the moment, but if I can modify this posting later I'll update it.
