Incident Description:
I was returning from a bike trip and one of my roommates placed my bike in our locked basement but the bike itself was not locked up. The bike was placed in the locked basement on the evening of Sunday 8/1. I did not check on the bike until Friday evening 8/6 and noticed the bike was missing. One of my roommates also had a bike stolen from the basement. Since the basement is locked (and there was no damage to the lock) it would be more likely that it is a tenant of the building or a maintenance worker of the building, but I would hope that people would not want to steal out of their own building.

Color:

Condition of Bicycle / Distinguishing Features:
This was a moderately used cyclocross bike, however I have road tires on it. There is a D.P. (my intitials) scratched under the seat on the down tube. It also has arctic camo grip tape (kind of dirty though), Crank Bro's Egg Beater pedals, an unmatching black and white Fuji seat, and the hoods are kind of beat up from me crashing often when racing. I also had one water bottle rack attached at the time it was stolen. The wheels are pretty beat up too which might help distinguish it. The standard Redline paint scheme and the camo griptape/Fuji seat should be dead giveaways. I attached what the frame looks like.

Less than eight hours
Incident Description:
I had an early morning shift at work, and locked my bike at 4:45 a.m. and went in to work at 250 E Superior St. It was near the street, yet in view of the security desk at Prentice Women's Hospital. I went out to check on it during my break, at approximately 11:30 a.m., and neither bike nor lock was present. I imagine that an opportunistic bike thief with a cable cutters happened upon it and simply cut the cable and walked off with it. I've only worked at this address and parked my bike at it twice, so I don't think that the incident could have been premeditated.

The next morning I looked out and noticed that my bike was gone and also the janitor of the building noticed it was gone too and asked me what happened. We both saw the "cut" u-shaped kryptonite lock(in two pieces) on the ground near where it was parked. I'm sure it happened very late at night or early morning --- I'd say around 3:00am. I think somebody has seen me park my bike out front of my building all the time or the thief was cruising up and down the quiet streets looking for parked bikes outside.
