Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

i just learned of this site, that's why the delay in posting. i realize i probably won't see the bike again. i'd ridden the bike from home to lincoln park zoo. locked it to a bike rack - and this is my mistake - thought i'd only be a minute and locked the front tire to the rack only (with a U-lock). ended up being gone longer than i orginally thought. came back and the front tire was still there and the bike was gone.

The bike had been in the same location for several days. I thought it was safe since it was locked through both wheels & the frame to the railing of my apartment complex in a lit area. Unfortunately the plastic coated cable obviously was easy enough to cut through.

I left the bike there locked over night. The manager Keith said that he broke the lock and left it in the dumpster area. Then it was gone. Either he has it or an employee has it

The bike was in the backyard, with both gates to the yard locked, though it was not chained to anything. Someone had to scale a six foot fence and lift the bike over that same fence to steal it. It also seems likely it was someone who lives in or knows the neighborhood (the Lakeview YMCA is just across the alley), because it is hard to see into the backyard from the alley, and most of the hours in which the bike could have been stolen were nighttime hours with little light. We know the bike was stolen between 7:30 PM on Sunday, 5.17.09, and 9:30 AM on Monday, 5.18.09. I currently have no job, and am just living week to week, so would love to get this bike back, though it seems like a longshot. Please help if you can...$100 cash reward for info leading to bike recovery.

Bike was most likely sold at Maxwell Street Market in South Loop. A witness claims to have seen the bike at Diversey/Halstead around noon the same day.

Went outside on Sunday afternoon and my baby was gone!

Bike was locked in front of Rush University while I my husband was visiting his mom at Rush. Came out to check on it a few times during the day, like he had done on previous days when he had locked it up to the same bike rack. There was even a security camera trained directly on the sidewalk where it was locked up which didn't deter the thieves. Three other bikes were stolen the same day, including one locked with a ulock. He had the bike seat so unless it's been replaced by the thief, it will be missing the original Schwinn seat. The worst part about it being stolen besides the loss of transportation is that my brother gave me the bike when he worked for Schwinn so it has sentimental value.

Garage in rear of house approximate 180 feet from sidewalk. Bikes cannot be seen from street when garage is open. This bike was taken. A less expensive bike in the same location was not stolen.

My beloved 1998 Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Pro (Shimano XTR/Deore XT components and an Answer Manitou SX fork) mountain bike was stolen out of my garage on Friday, May 8th sometime between 9 P.M. and 8 A.M. I would like nothing more than to get it back and I am offering a $50 reward for information leading to its safe return. It is orange with a red Manitou fork. It also had a gray saddle bag attached to the seat, a black rear rack which was used to mount my kid's bike seat and a Cateye computer mounted to right side of the handlebar. Someone just walked on in and stole my bike.

A friend borrowed my bike, rode it to the North Ave. Blue Line stop locked the bike there and took the Blue line. When she got back the bike was no longer there.

My bike was locked to itself with a U-lock in my locked apartment entryway, and was stolen on Friday night, May 8. I heard a party going on in the building that night, so a lot of people were in and out of the building. Saturday morning, the bike was gone.

After entering house through garage, the garage door was left open for a short time and bicycle was stolen from garage before the garage door was closed.

Stolen while locked to bike racks in front of Ela Public Library in Lake Zurich. Lock was Cut and a piece left at scene.

Someone stole my bike, most likely last night, from my garage. It's more of a shed than a garage, as it's lacks a wall in the direction facing the house. It's surrounded by an average height fence, over which I presume my bike was hoisted.

Pole was comprimised and while in a crowded location no one witnessed.

bike is blue with s&s couplings -comes apart for travel. This was a custom alteration and around the coupling area black paint was added and faded into the dark blue. Very unique bike.

Using a combo cable lock, my boyfriend and I locked our bikes together and then to a parking meter. Both were stolen with no evidence of the lock. His bike is a Cannondale Adventure 5.0(?) that is black with blue and silver accents. Both bikes were hybrids. Both bikes had on-board cyclocomputers but we removed the monitors after locking the bikes so if found, there's be base mounts for the computers but no monitors. We locked our biked up near Arnold's Deli at 4100 Broadway and they were stolen while we ate a quick lunch.
