Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Am stunned due to the foot traffic and the fact that building employees are in plain view of the bikes.

Purchased in front of Star Lounge for $10, from a gentleman I can only assume was not the rightful owner.

Man across street noticed I had been looking at the rack trying to find my bike. Informed me that he had noticed several bike being stolen having the locks been cut. Thiefs took off south bound toward the UIC campus. One may have tried to get on the train.

My son locked the bike to a fence in the backyard of his friend's house. 30 minutes later, the bike and lock are gone.

My apartment was broken into and other items were stolen including TVs, oriental rug, jewelery and coats. Two cars keys were taken from the apartment. The bicycle was locked inside a locked garage. The thieves was the car keys to access the car and used the garage door opener to exit the garage, stealing both the car and the bicycle locked inside. Residents of the the building saw a blue minivan enter the garage by following another resident into the gargage but when confronted, left confusidly. This occured at ~1:00p. Another resident saw the car parked in garage at 12:30p but is was gone when the returned at 2:30p. The crime occured between 1:00p and 2:30p

I locked my bike in front of Giordino's and went inside to get an individual-size pizza. When I exited, no more than 30 minutes later, both the bike and lock were stolen.

The bike was in my garage and it was stolen when my garage door malfunctioned and opened while I was at work.

I lock my bike in the Jefferson park metra station to take a train, I thought it safe there ..!when i came back around 4.00pm it wasn't there .

Bike stolen infront of appartment. I left it there the night before due to a shoulder injury and didn't want to carry down stairs.

I lock my bike outside of my office on Michigan Ave. to one of the two bike racks between Jackson and Van Buren. There are always other bikes next to mine, and it's a busy street with plenty of pedestrians to point out anyone messing with them. I had my U-Lock around the fork and front-wheel on one end and the fram on the other. I suspect that the thief picked the lock because he left it on the rack when he/she left. I filed a police report but don't have the report number in front of me.

I am a dogwalker, so my bike is used as transportation between jobs. In this incident, I was getting ready to leave the residence on my bike when I realized I forgot to refill the dog's water dish. I locked the bike to a wire fence and ran back into the house to give the dog water. This took maybe three minutes. When I came back out, my bike was gone.

My bike was locked up outside my apartment complex in University Village. It was only there a few hours and when i returned it was gone. The bike requires a special key to removed the seat and tires, which I have.

I locked my bike to a "no parking" street sign post overnight, and in the morning the street post had been dug up, and my bike was gone! FYI, some street post are apparently only buried about 8 inches into the ground, and have no base attached.

Bike was locked to rack overnight but was stolen.

Bike was stolen back second floor of back porch. Unknown exact time and date bike was stolen. Thank you for your help.

In the haste of moving I locked my trials bike and fixie to a bike rack outside the logan square blue line stop, where I assumed the high traffic and video cameras would deter bike thieves. Distracted by moving and school, I left my bikes locked there for almost a week, which was a huge mistake. When I returned, both bikes and the lock were gone.

I had locked my bicycle to a fence in my friends enclosed back yard while I was having dinner there. The thieves cut the fence apart, and took the bike. It happened between 6-10pm. The ULock was locked to the frame and to the fence, so when the fence was cut, the thieves could take the bike. The lock would still be attached to the frame (Until they cut it off...)

3-4 men removed the handicap sign pole infront of the building and took off on bikes within seconds.

I had come back from a ride around 11:30 pm on Tuesday night (9/2/08) and placed my bike as usual in the basement of our building. I only lock it up when I go out and leave the lock without a key on a table next to the bike. The bike was placed in the basement in the back room (not visible unless you go around two corners to the back of the basement) in the dark, behind the locked basement door and the locked gate. I went to go for a ride Friday (9/5/08)around 5:30pm and the bike and u-lock were gone. The gate has been not always closing lately, but the basement has to be opened with a key that everyone in the building has. Thursday night I noticed the basement door open, but I just assumed someone was in there doing laundry. Perhaps that is when someone left it open and someone came in to steal the bike. Only my bike out of all the others in there - others also unlocked.

They must have cut through the Kryptonite lock to get the bike off the rack. I had it hooked through the front tire and the main frame and onto the bike rack...there were scrapes on the concrete around the bikerack from whatever they used to get the bike off....= (
