On the evening of the 12th I came home from grabbing dinner and a man was standing outside my building with a bike helmet on but no bike near him. He was just staring off into space near my bike, so I resolved to head up to my apartment and watch out the window just to make sure he wasn't checking my bike out. I didn't see anything, but the next morning when I left at 5:45am the bike and lock were gone.

It was purchased at RiverCity bicycles in Portland Or and had sticker on frame saying so. Chrome water bottle cage and silver fenders. Shimano 105 derailer and STI integrated shifters. SPD clipless pedals with large integrated platforms.

Lock Type:
Other
What was the bike locked to?:
Locked to a metal pole, pipe, or fence.

Incident Description

Which type of area was your bike stolen from?:
Front of building in residential area.
How was the bike locked?:
Other situation, please describe below.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
The bike was locked overnight for about 9 hours. Was stoled at around 6am as partner saw it when leaving my apartment prior to 6am
Incident Description:
The bike was locked with the mini U lock of newer type (flat key) by its rear wheel and through the rear triangle (very secure) to a roughly 3/4 inch or 1 inch metal upright supporting a wrought iron fence. To take the bike they cut through the similarly thick top cross tube which the vertical tube intersected. They to make two cuts in the top tube to separate it from the vertical tube and then another incomplete cut in the vertical tube which allowed them to bend it forward, clear of the top tube. They then lifted the bike off of the vertical tube. I presume they then took it somewhere else to wrestle with getting cutting the ulock and/or somehow bypassing the locking skewers securring the bike componenets.

Incident Description:
This happened while me and my brother/roommate were both out of town for 10 days at the beginning of August. I entered the incident date as 8/11 @ 9pm because that's when I returned to my apt. The burglar(s) came in through the first floor window, which leads to a small sitting area that can be climbed onto from the front entrance. He/She/They removed the AC unit and also took my brother's television, which was in the same room as my bicycle. They rifled through my t-shirt drawer, probably looking for money, and left that drawer open before exiting through our front door, leaving it unlocked. They also left the window open when they exited and the AC unit was on the ground of the outdoor sitting/gathering area.

This was not a complete bike. Only my front wheel and handlebars were stolen. Front wheel is a silver ritchey hub (r logo on hub) laced to a silver bead blasted specialized rim (no stickers or markings on the rim) with silver spokes and a brand new Continental Gatorskin 700 by 23c tire. The front wheel also has a black quick release skewer that has a larger than normal lever. I unfortunately can't remember the brand, but it is very distinguishing. The handlebars were silver Cinelli old road handlebars that were cut to bullhorns. They are very short horns. They had pink bar tape but I doubt that is still in tact. I noticed that a lot of other bikes had been ripped off so somebody was there for a while doing this.

The thief didn't cut any locks, just used some tools to steal what was unlocked. I left the bicycle at 6:00 am and returned at 5:00 pm so I cannot verify a time, but so many parts were missing that the thief had to be there for more than a couple minutes.
