Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Someone broke into an unfinished unit in my development, and stole my bike & my husband's Gary Fisher Aquila. My bike was locked in a secure garage. It was taken from the garage and through the unit they broke into, and out the front door. Happened during the night. Other bikes were in the garage and not locked up at all, and they were not stolen.

My bike was stolen from my locked garage sometime during the day. When I arrived home the side door to the garage was open and the lock to the garage was not damaged.

Bike was stolen off my back porch over night. Only locked to itself.

Bike was mounted to the back of a car and left unattended for 5-10 minutes near the corner of North and Wood. Two bikes were stolen, the second one is a Yellow Specialized Stumpjumper with disc brakes.

we always leave our bikes in our back yard where we have 2 gates and a privacy fence. it wasn't locked up, so i guess it's my fault for being naive.

This bike, along with a green Schwinn road bike, a Kona mountain bike, and a old Sears women's cruiser were stolen from our fenced-in deck. The back yard had lots of bikes, two weren't taken, probably due to a lack of interest.

I left the bike on my second floor enclosed back porch(I live in a REAR apartment) unlocked while I used the restroom before going back out. I even left my back door open, which is like fifteen feet away from my bathroom. The porch is practically an extension of my house, and it's pretty private. It's enclosed and my yard is even gated. Of course leaving your bike unlocked is negligent and risky, but it felt natural. And I was gone for literally five minutes. I was naieve, and he either had good taste or was very desperate. Someone saw him riding it down North Ave. towards California the night of it's theft. He was youngish, twentysomething, and Hispanic.

Someone broke into my garage and stole my bike. My garage door was closed and the next morning I found the door open and my bike missing. Someone either jumped over my locked fence and opened the door to the garage,or somehow managed to open my actual garage door and steal my bike. What a bunch of worthless members of society. Get a job and buy your own bike!!! Thanks for reading....

My friend locked only the front wheel to the rack, so somebody used the quick open system and stole the bike without front wheel.

I locked my new Gary Fisher to a street sign in front of a residential building on Clark & Webster. I was inside for 15 minutes and when I came out, the bike was gone. I'll be filing a police report today.

Stolen from locked bike room in high-rise building at some point in the past 12 months (8/06-7/07)

The bicycle was locked to itself inside a Toyota Corolla. The thief smashed the window to remove the bike. About 10 feet from the car someone had their (bike) wheels stolen also. Nothing besides the bike was taken from the car.

I parked my bike in front of Rush University Medical Center, where I work. I left it chained it through both wheels and frame to the bike rack. When I returned at about 3 p.m., the bike was gone. The following note was left from another person (not the thief): "I'm sorry to inform you that your bike was stolen. A man in a green shirt broke your chain with pliers and took your bike. An eyewitness called the Chicago Police Department, but the thief got away." The security guard at Rush says that it happens a lot in this area, and that a common tactic is for the thief to sit on the bike like it's his, but what he's really doing is discreetly reaching down with a compact set of bolt cutters to cut the cable.

I was moving into my apartment building and had to leave my belongings in the foyer by the elevator while I moved items out of the moving truck. The bike was left unlocked surrounded by other items. I believe the thief, who was caught on camera but not recognized by apartment staff, also took the lock which had a combination of 7611. I give the combo because I believe it increases the odds of getting it back or at least making this guys day a little worse, so if you see it feel free to steal it again!!

I left the bike locked to a solid street sign while I went upstairs for a little while, when I returned less than an hour later the bike and lock were gone. It was the middle of the day on a quiet street. I don't understand how a bike thief just happened to be walking by during the short time my back was outside. There were other bikes nearby, but I think mine probably looked the newest.

Had left two bikes in company parking lot (lit up, several security cameras, security guards on duty 24/7 in building) because I had too many people and bikes to fit in my car for the LATE ride. Didn't bring U-lock. (Other bike was 1970's Rampar 10 speed, brown, 27 inch frame -- i.e. really big frame) Cables cut, probably Friday night, and both bikes stolen. Given no picture and the fact that I can't find the user's manual with the serial number, there's really no hope but at least this makes me feel I'm doing something. Will add police report number later.

I left the bike on the back porch, people were coming home from pitchfork, I walked outside 15 minutes later and it was gone. People had entered about ten minutes after I arrived and didn't see my bike.

The bike was locked in a hurry only to the front wheel onto the wooden railings of the deck at the back of the second floor apartment. The front wheel was left with the lock and the bike was taken away with just the front wheel missing. The picture attached is only a similar bike.

The bike was locked up using two different locks- a cable combo and a master padlock. It is the first time I rode it to work here. It was taken in the middle of the afternoon from in front of my work.
