Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

They cut through both the Kryptonite cable and lock, and left pieces at the scene. In front of a busy store on a busy street.

Bike was hung up in garage each night. I came home from work on the 28th and the bike was gone.

Bike was locked up at approximately 4pm on Weds Aug 26th. It just started to rain heavily and was locked to a construction pole. I cam out after the rain had stopped (30-45 min later)to find the cable lock cut, sitting by itself. This was the best fit bike I have owned so I will provide a LARGE REWARD for it's return.

I don't usually like to leave my bike outside at night but it was my birthday and I came back late so I didnt get dropped off by my bike. Bike was locked to a street light on a corner with no parking so it was very well lit and highly visible. Bike was locked only with a small padlock and thin cable since I don't usually leave it outside overnight and it isn't a particularly nice bike. My best guess is that someone saw a shiny bike (I really liked this bike despite its low quality so the chrome was all polished and the frame waxed) and chopped the cable. I couldn't find the lock but it might have been tossed in one of the neighbors gardens. Unique features of the bike would be the dual pivot calipers (japanese market long reach tektros...never seen another set here) and brown leather hand grips. Oh, and everything was pretty shiny at the time of theft

Bike was locked to a bike rack near Pearson Street in front of the MCA among lots of other bikes and a full bike rack. Left the MCA when it was closing after being in there for an hour. A few bikes were left on the bike rack. Mine was gone, and it was stolen. Lock was taken with it. To elicit some sympathy: handbuilt the bike with a friend all summer,, rode it for three days before it was gone.

Was stolen while secured to a friend's bike with a steel cable lock. Lock was cut and found next to both bikes. Was stolen outside of 112 South Michigan Avenue on Saturday, September 5.

bike was locked at Metra Edgebrook train station in the morning (approximately 6am), arrived to train station after work (approximately 5pm) and bike & lock was missing.

The bike was stolen from the locked apartment lobby in front. It was self-locked with a U-lock. Lock on lobby door was not broken. Older bike in lobby was not taken. This would have occured most likely between the hours of midnight to 7AM.

We had two bikes stolen from in front of the zoo. It was at the east entrance to the zoo. One was an orange Raleigh bike and the other was the Cannondale. They were both locked together to a bike rack.

I noticed my bike missing when I came back to my apartment one day. I had it parked in my apartment's parking lot, which requires a key to be accessed. I suppose I was lucky it was not stolen earlier; it was unlocked all summer. I believe someone climbed up the fence, then walked it out, because you only need a key in, not a key out.

Someone took my bike out of my closed garage and had to enter my backyard to do so. I am really sad about it!

Bike was in the garage since about August 19th. Discovered it missing on August 29. No sign of forced entry into the garage (shared garage)

Left it locked outside of my friend's and wasn't there when I came back

Bike was locked outside of apartment building. Went missing overnight. No sign of lock or bike.

Bike was in a storage/bike room that had intermittent door problems (lock on the door was continually broken and fixed). The bike storage system in the building used these cables attached to the wall with a loop at the other end to slip a lock through. I had a U-Lock going through the front tire, the loop, and my frame and a cable lock going around the back tire and the frame (locking the tire to the frame). The system was defeated by the prying open of the loop. No evidence of locks left behind - assume that they carried the bike off to an alternate location to dismantle locks later.

Bike was left in front of busy library during rush hour near a library guard, next to 7-8 other bikes, and in front of people talking on cell phones during rush hour traffic in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Guard refused to offer assistance (including her cell phone to file the police report) and police officer was similarly helpful.

I had locked my bike to the railing attached to the concrete wall around the tunnel access below. It was right next to the ticket booths for the avp pro volleyball tournament being held that day, and right alongside the cycling/running trail along the shoreline. When I came back out from the tournament, my bike and lock were both gone. I checked the whole area and did not see any signs of the lock.

Discovered bike missing this morning. The bike had been kept next to the stairs behind two sets of locked doors into my apartment building. It's a 20 year old bike, probably not worth much, but important for me for bringing my kids places.

The bike was on the 2nd floor back porch of a 2-flat, surrounded by a yard and 8-foot-high wooden fence. The bike was not locked. It is believed the thief came through a neighbor's back fence, then hopped the shorter change link fence between the yards in order to get into the backyard of 1033. The bike has brush guards on the handlebars and the brakes were fairly worn down. A clear-backed "Ironman Triathlon" decal on the front handlebars is partially worn away from having my U-Lock resting on it and rubbing it off.

*The bike was stolen from the bike rack in the parking garage at Swedish Covenant Hospital. <br> *I made a few changes to the bike since taking this picture, but, essentially, this is the way the bike looks. The changes include: A rear "Tubus" brand rack & red "backpack style" pannier on the back.<br> *Although difficult to see in this picture, the bike has a somewhat unique "front rack" on it, a "CETMA 5 rail" rack. In this picture, the wicker basket is sitting on the rack. The thief has probably easily removed the large front wicker basket by now.<br> *The CETMA rack has left a few paint chip scars on the right and left sides of the top tube which should, forever, be an identifying marker of my bike.<br> *The front rack, front tire and seat post have a unique locking system, a "Pitlock" system, on them which will make either difficult to remove without the unique bolt "key" which is in my possession, i.e. good luck raising and lower the seat, thief! ;)<br> *A report has been filed with the Chicago Police and Hospital security. FYI, Hospital security told me thefts have been occurring "a lot" from their bike racks. They are baffled how someone is doing this in the middle of the day *right next* to the lady sitting in the booth taking money in the parking garage.<br> *REWARD offered for anyone who has information on my bike's whereabouts and can recover my bike. :( I miss my bike.<br>
