My bike had been located in the "secure" common area of my condo building for approx 2 years, unfortunately someone was able to gain entry and stole the bicycle. Possibly a cleaning service that cleans the common area. Last saw the bike on Sunday Feb 24, noticed it was gone on Saturday March 1st. The image shown is from the Cannondale 1998 catalog, it is not the exact bike (img shown is V2000) but it is the exact same frame style, color, and lettering with the exception of the rear suspension. The rear suspension on my V900 was same shape but a bright yellow.

I think the burgulars were scoping out the scene to come back later on. This bike is probably not worth much since I bought it. But it is very sentimental to me.

How long was the bike locked in this location?:
Bike was stored in my garage. Free standing with kickstand and not locked.
Incident Description:
I entered my garage at approximately 5:00PM. Entered my home from inside the garage, and foolishly failed to close the garage door behind me. About an hour later at 6:00PM, I got a call from the security guard of our complex, Beekman Place, asking me if I realized that my garage door was open. I ran downstairs to the garage, and immediately noticed that the bike was gone along with some power tools. I live near the corner of Clark and Division and there are many vagrants transiting the alley into which my garage door opens. Also, there is a service door to a large apartment building, directly opposite to my garage door. This apartment building is 1260 N. Dearborn. Many people are entering and exiting through that alley service door during the day and night. It is quite possible that one of the residents of that building took the bike. If you live in that building, please be on the lookout for my bike. Thanks much.

Location

AMC Loews, on Ohio between Michigan and Rush
600 N Michigan
Chicago , IL

Basic Bike Info

Bicycle Type:
Road Bike
Serial No.:
5095770
Size:
56 cm with 26 in wheels
Color:
Blue
Condition of Bicycle / Distinguishing Features:
The frame, wheels and components were all good quality, with a few minor scrapes to the frame. The front brake lever (on the left) works fine, but was significantly scratched, with the end-cap at the top broken off. From ware and scrapes, there is electrical tape supplementing the bar tape in both drops and across the left top part of the bars. The seat is/was a Fizik Arione, and most components are mostly Shimano 105. The pedals are SpeedPlay Zero Stainless Steel, really small and meant to be clipped in; without the right cleats, it's difficult to ride. Both front and rear wheels were Bontrager Select, with Continental's Gatorskin tires. The back tire had more ware and was really smooth. The cyclo-computer mount on the handlebar had a latch at the bottom break off. It had been about 2 or 3 weeks without washing it, so it could still be pretty dirty (with road salt and some mud mostly around the back of the frame.
