Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The image is a stock image online, but I'll try to find a pic on my home computer soon. I think somebody either cut the U-lock if that's possible, or picked the lock. Without any evidence of cutting, I think it must've been picked. I tried to remove the street sign and it was thoroughly anchored into the ground, so there are no other ways I can see that it would've been removed. There might have been a car parked between the bike and the sign, therefore giving the thief some cover in performing the act. From now on I'll try to park my bike as close as possible to an active public area.

Yes, this was a crazy, boneheaded situation. The bike was leaning against a building while we stood a few feet away and our backs were turned. The bike was just gone! We had not noticed or heard anyone. Look, the bike was brand new (3 weeks old) and was a birthday gift for someone who does not have any other mode of transportation. Was attending church for the first time in this area, locked two bikes to same rack and went inside. Upon coming out of the building only one bike was left.

I use this bike rack often when I need to use the Red Line so I believe someone notices that I leave it there regulary. Today, I locked it at 11:50am and returned 3:40pm and the lock was pounded open with what looks like a hammer. I have a Kryptonite U Lock and keep only the frame locked. I notice that there are quite a few of bikes stolen in front of the FFC Club across the street from Perillo BMW and it must be the work of crimials who "stalk" the area. Hence, Since I leave it there often, it's a good chance the Dirtbag saw it before and stole it very quick because the rack was in front of the bank during business 1PM business hours!!

I locked up my bike outside of the UH building on the UIC campus before going to class. Upon returning less than 2 hours later the bike was gone, along with the lock.

I think new or leaving tenants stole my bike along with other storage items.

I'm guessing someone cut off the cable lock. I'm surprised that it was taken in broad daylight at a well frequented area though.

Bike was left locked in front of KPTC doors on U Chicago campus. Disappeared somewhere between 1pm and 5pm. Filed a police report, but don't have the number handy.

Bike was stolen from a locked basement. Thief(ves) broke window to enter basement, took two bikes (other - gold Bianchi Volpe, in separate report) and exited through the back door. We could actually see the wheel marks in the dirt outside as they were taken away. Nothing else was stolen, even though there was nice camping gear right next to bikes, so perhaps thieves intended to use rather than sell bikes.

Left my bike locked in front of the field house at Kosciuszko Park and came back to find it missing. Theres usually a few shady characters that hang out around the basketball court so I'm guessing it's one of those guys. If anyone has any information that would be helpful, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

I went into fox and Obel for lunch and came out too see my bike gone.

I think that someone who had access to the building may have taken it. I imagine that it was sold or pawned or something of that sort right after it was taken. Its really hard to say considering I didn't lock it. I can imagine many different types of people taking it.

Someone with access to the building at 707 West Sheridan entered the locked bike locker and stole a number of bicycles from the storage area, including this one.

Some time between 8AM and 3PM my bicycle was locked to a bike rack outside Rush University Hospital, in front of the radiation therapy department where I work. Someone in the hospital saw sparks flying and contacted the security department. One of the security guards tried to run after the thief. When I got off work I discovered it missing and went to the security department at Rush, where I got this story.

The bike was locked to a wrought iron fence behind a gate in front of my house with a newer u-lock/w flat key. The thieves either climbed over the fence or reached over the gate to open it, then used a tool to cut through the fence to remove the bike.

Bike was parked and locked infront of the pharmacy on the ground floor of the building. It was locked to a street lamp. I went up for a doctor's appointment and when I came back down and hour-and-a-half later the bike was gone along with the lock. If anyone sees this bike, then please let me know. I have a bum leg and can't really walk around; this bike was the only way I could get around. Sorry, I only have a stock photo. The bike was less than two-weeks old, so I never really got around to taking any pictures.

The bike was locked to the bike rack outside of the College of Dentistry at 1:15 pm and was gone by 6:00pm.

I locked my bike on a street sign I usually don't use- I either use one closer or most of the time bring it upstairs with me. I figured I was leaving for work at 5:30 AM, it would be ok... but it was gone when I left for work. It was kind of under a street light, so I'm sure it stood out. I'm assuming it was just lifted up and over the street sign pole- I'm kicking myself for ever using it in the first place.

Went into Chase Bank at approx. 2:45pm, broad daylight, business district street with many passing pedestrians and cars. Was inside 10 minutes max, when I returned to the sign to which I had cabled the bike, my cable was cut and bike was gone. Oddly a silver aluminum "Magna" dual-suspension mountain bike that was not there when I locked my bike was left leaning against the newspaper vending machines only 3 feet from where my bike had been stolen. Police and I suspect the thief "traded up." The silver Magna--which was brand new, complete with store sticker and chain that still had the original factory grease on it--was taken by the Oak Park Police Department. If the Magna is yours call Oak Park Police to recover.
