Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was noticed stolen at 10:40 pm on January 12th, 2012. Bike lock had been cut and taken with the bike. Bike lock (Kryptonite Ubolt and Kryptonite Braided chain) were found less than a block away at 501 W Surf Street outside in the bushes. Video surveillance shows the individual walking the bike around the corner and throwing the bike locks into the bushes and keeps walking west on Surf. The individual was wearing a black coat, with grey hooded sweatshirt, as well as a stocking back. The man was approximately 5'10"-6' tall and looked to be of average build. Tire tracks were traced westward to Broadway but then lost in the intersection. The individual cut the uBolt with a powered cutting device and had a messenger bag with him. The cut was clean and discolored darker towards the end of the cut. The plastic around the metal was melted as well.

I recently moved into a new 4 story walk up, a retail space on the ground floor and 3 apartments above it. In the back of the building was a stairwell that was used for the apartments to access a garage, parking area and dumpsters (for the retail also). At the bottom of the stairwell is a small storage area and hallway that other residents stored their bikes, strollers, etc. Since the bikes were only locked to themselves and stored within a locked room (no windows)that only residents and the retail space had access to, I felt comfortable storing my bike there. On Monday 1/9/12, when I got home, my bike was gone. After speaking with the other residents and managers of the salon in the retail space, it seems as if none of them are responsible. I am assuming someone left the back common door unlocked or someone brok in. This bike looks brand new. I bought in June but only rode about 10 times for about an hour each. You wouldn't know that it wasn't brand new except for the flat tires.

I ran inside to see my brother at work and when I came out my bike was gone. Object which the bike was locked to (with a newer u-lock w/flat key) was broken :( Someone definitely got coal for Christmas! I'd love any information about the potential location of the bike. I miss it so much!!

locked my bike to a public bike rack on the sidewalk in front of landmark century centre cinema. after my movie let out, my bike and my lock were both missing. there were a few other locks that had been cut through on nearby racks from previously stolen bikes.

3 bikes were stolen from our garage. This happened sometime during the early a.m. (as in sometime after midnight) on the 10th. When I went to take my bike to school in the morning, the large garage door was still wide open. One of the stolen bikes was recovered at Working Bikes because it's really nice (Brooks saddle, etc.) and a homeless man tried to sell it to them.

The bike was locked up at a busy intersection, when I came out the U-lock has been cut cleanly through at the top of the "U" (it looked like a power saw that sliced it)

3 bikes were taken out of a locked garage, overnight. Some bikes were left in the garage, so a scrapper is not suspected.

Students' bikes are locked up to this rack all the time, as it's right outside a dorm. It's also set away from the street, and away from non-university residences, which leads me to believe it was a fellow student. Somehow--and the public safety official was completely confused by this, too--the lock was left locked to the rack, and the bike was gone. I saw it was stolen at one in the afternoon, and I had seen it last around two in the morning. I have no idea how it could have been stolen, as the lock is not a combination one.

My bike was stored in our basement/laundry room locked, and the lock was cut and part of it was left on the ground. Other bikes with U-locks were not missing.

Locked the Bike to a sign post in front of the restaurant next to Starbucks. Went inside the starbucks for about an hour, upon leaving realized that my bike was missing and a Valet Parking sign was up on the post where my bike was locked to..I went inside to ask the business if they removed the bike to which they responded that there was no bike on the street sign when he attached the Valet Sign 30 mins before.. Filed Police report..

Broke window in garage and unlocked lock on bike and existed alley door. 2 other Trek mountain bikes also taken 1) Trek 7800 Maroon--women's specific 2) Trek 8500 Red Men's specific Also stolen was assorted paraphenalia e.g. shoes helmets pumps bags.

I left my bike locked up pretty heavily outside my dorm at DePaul University before leaving for my winter break on November 16th. When I returned to school on January 2nd, the bike was no longer locked to the bike rack outside of the dorm. None of the other bikes that had been locked up in November were there either, save one. Unfortunately, the building was vacant for most of the break, meaning that the bike could have been stolen with relative ease.

It was a forced entrance into my garage. The bikes were both U-locked to bike racks that were drilled into the studs. The doors and bike racks were destroyed with a crow bar or something like that. The bikes were removed from the garage. Shame on me, but this is the second time I have had my bikes stolen from this garage.

My girlfriend and I left our bikes locked up and took a cab home after a great night at Coles. Returned to recover the bikes the following afternoon, and neither one was there. Hers was a Trek 700 girls multi-track.

The bike was locked to a storage rack on a cement wall in a shared garage. A U-lock went around the frame of this bike and around a steel bar on the storage rack.

Bike was locked to the bike rack on Ashland Ave in front of the entrance to the Metra Clybourn stop.

I just got my bike stolen outside of Smart Bike Parts in Logan Square. Its a 2011 Tommaso Classic root beer color with blue deep vs, mustache handle bars, and beige wrap. It was stolen at 5:45 pm on 12-17-11 by a theif wearing all black 5'5-5'9. He cut the straps off the car rack the bike was hanging off of and fled heading south on Whipple from Armitage. The bike was on the back porch of my apartment building, and was taken while we were out. The door was left unlocked. The bike was unlocked, and had a flat tire. No knowledge of where bike might be or the exact time it was taken.
