Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I returned home with my bicycle on Wednesday (12/3) at around 3:45pm. I always leave my bike unlocked in the storage room below my apartment. At this time there were two men installing some insulation around some pipes in this same storage room. They saw me bring the bike in where I left it unlocked (stupidly, now) as they were working. I went down to ride it this evening (12/4, around 5:15pm) and it was gone along with one of my neighbor's bikes. Both of our U-locks were sitting there left behind. I think it's pretty obvious who took them and I will be following up with the management company to figure out who they were.

I rode my bike to the Red Line stop at Lawrence and Clifton (1117 W. Lawrence) and locked my bike to a provided bike rack, using a heavy duty chain (links thicker than my thumb) and heavy lock (I have been using this set for 17 years). I left the bike just before noon, and when I returned just after 4 p.m. the bike was gone. My helmet was also locked with the same chain

ATTEMPTED theft - reporting for sake of statistics Left bike under back porch with rear-wheel O-lock engaged. Heard a noise, saw back gate open. Bike was ditched in alley when thief realized they couldn't ride it away.

Bike had been locked to the fence around the back yard of the house for several days, but was still there about two hours before I found it gone. The fence runs along an alleyway/driveway that faces the drive-in pharmacy of a walgreens, but the bike was on the inside of the fence so they had to have come into the yard through the side gate, which has no lock.

Bike stolen near Grand and McClurg. I assume lock was cut. No trace of lock or bike remaining. Bike was stolen in broad daylight on a Sunday morning, with plenty of people in the street.

Bike was kept in a private garage next to car. Thief would have had to sneak into building or be let in and granted access to basement parking garage.

When I walked outside my house into my courtyard to get my bike I saw that it was gone.

This bike was stolen out of my locked garage at night. It appears they broke the garage door, disabled the opener and lifted the garage door manually. Brand new tokyobike that isn't even sold anywhere in Chicago, so should be distinctive.

Bike was locked to parking sign post morning of Tuesday 11/25 and removed sometime between then and Sunday 12/30 2pm. Bike had been left in this same place for several weeks with periodic use.

I found the u-lock that had been cut off. The bike was attached to a wooden porch on the side of the apartment building where I work, at ground level. The incident must have happened between the hours of midnight and 8 am.

bike was locked through front wheel and over frame by cable u-lock in front of willis tower where security is present. they were unwilling to view any potential security footage.

A chain saw was used. Thief has a pick the garage door before able to cut the lock

The bike was accidentally left outside of the garage. This is an embarrassing situation, as it was caused by our own ineptitude. The bike was most likely taken by scrappers during their morning runs. After discovering the situation this morning I immediately went to the Cortland scrapyard in the very, very off-chance it would show up.

The bike was observed sitting in the same spot in front of my house for two days. I believe it was stolen at night after observation for some time.

Bike was stolen from under my parents bedroom window.

The bike was securely U-locked in a private garage at 343 W. Old Town Ct. My bike rack is located in the back of the garage and there were dozens of other bikes locked up, much closer to the door, that were left untouched. This seem to be a premeditated operation, as 2 other very expensive road bikes were stolen in the same manner from this complex. We were instructed to move our cars out of the garage for a routine cleaning on November 6. Unbeknownst to me, the cleaning never happened. I returned my car to the garage on the 9th and the bike was gone. Between November 6-9 my bike was stolen.

Locked bike in front of Goodman Theater Dearborn and Lake. Left for 4 hrs. Stolen from 6pm - 10:30pm. This bike is very important to me. It is my commute to work. I have ridden all the way around Lake Michigan on it. I ride it daily and go absolutely everywhere with it. It's my baby. I'm hoping for a miracle with its return.

Garage Burglary. 2100 block of W Erie (alley between Erie and Ohio). My back gate was kicked in, a small garage window was smashed and the thief climbed in through the window. I also found 2 olds balls in my yard which I suspect were thrown in by the thief before the break in to check to see if there was anyone in the yard or if I had a dog.
