Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was locked in our stairwell for a couple weeks. They broke into the building, went up to the third floor and took the bike off of its rack.

Between 2-2:10 PM, my bike was locked with a U-lock likely on the body with another bicylce (my sister's). Between this 10 minute interval, the bike was stolen with the U-lock not broken nor my sister's bike stolen. We attempted to go the flea market on Des Plaines to intercept the bike without results.

Bike was stolen from second floor back porch. Thief either hoisted a very tall ladder against the balcony or broke into very heavy and high steel fence and then through the porch door. Bike was hardly visible from the alley and building is an old limestone with very high ceilings and thus high floor levels. The picture is obviously not mine but the bike looks just like that. ***

Two cable locks were cut and bike was stolen while we were in church.

I parked the bike on the bike rack underneath the Metra tracks on Cortland. The front wheel and frame were locked to the rack by a ULock, and the back wheel and seat were locked to each other with a coil lock. I parked the bike at 6pm and returned at 11pm to find the bike and locks missing.

They hopped fence, broke into a locked garage, cut cable and stole both bikes.

I don't think it was unusual, I think someone just decided they wanted it and clipped the lock. It had a lot of work done, and looks like a nice bike, shiny and new :(

This bike was stolen from the stairwell of our apartment. Bike was not locked and front door was not locked. Very unique bike, built it myself.

I had the bike locked up on a bike rack at north ave. beach along with two other bikes. We used a cable lock and i put mine on the inside of the three, against the rack. We came back approximately and hour and a half later to discover that our bikes were displaced and only mine was missing. They left the cut cable lock at the scene and the other two unscathed. I filed a report the next day and made phone calls to the area bike shops. What I think happened is someone was watching us as we pulled up and then went up to it with hand cutters to snip the cable and took my bike as soon as we left.

Bike was on patio, through gated/locked fence of apartment building.

Noticed through garage window that the overhead garage door appeared to be open, though it had not been just a few minutes before. By the time we got to the garage, the garage door light was still on, meaning the door had not been open long, but the bike was gone. Nothing else was missing. The thief somehow got our overhead garage door open, and then probably rode away on the bike.

I walked out after work and my bike was gone. I asked the Manager at Au Bon Pain if he saw anything. He asked what time I parked it there. I told him 8:45am ish. He said he got to work at 9:30am and when he walked up there were no bikes locked to the bike rack. When I locked mine there was a bike on the other side of the rack. Someone could have been watching me for a few days and realized when to take it.

Bike was stored on bike room at residence, lock was cut and left there. The buillding is claiming they are not responsible and security cam was not hooked so apparently there is no way to find out when was it stollen exactly. The bike has been stored there for over a year and a half even though the bike is about 3 years old it has less than 60 miles so it looks brand new. Unfortunately I don't have the serial number saved so even though we did file a police report they said there is not much of a point to it. I hope I get lucky and someone sees it. Thanks everyone!

Bike was left hidden in bushes along the wooded ravine path to the shore of Lake Michigan just East of the intersection of Maple and North roads. Several young people, aged ~16-25, were seen leaving the Lake front walking up the path, presumably returning to their parked car at the top of the ravine path. Bike was not visible from nearest street. People that park near this path to the lake shore do not have a Lake Bluff village sticker and are trying to avoid paying to get down to the beach and parking illegally. Someone leaving the lake front probably picked the bike out of the bushes on their way up to their car and drove off with it.

I parked my new bike at a public bike rack at the SW corner of North and Wells, a very busy and crowded intersection even at night time, with a 24-hrs Starbucks, a 24-hrs Walgreens, a McDonalds and a Boston Market at the four corners. At approximately 00:30am at night (Friday night/Saturday morning), I locked my bike with a key cable lock, wrapping through both wheels and the bike frame to the rack, and went into the 24-hrs Starbucks. When I returned after 10 mins, the bike as well as the lock were gone. There were a lot of other bikes parking in that area and around the intersection, some of which are a lot nicer than my bike. I did see a few people "hanging out" at the intersection; but, again, it is a very crowded and busy place, with a lot of pairs of eyes watching.

My bike was locked out side to a bike rack by the Goose Island Brewpub on Clyborn for about two hours from 7:30PM to 9:30PM. I came out and the lock and bike were gone.
