I locked the bike in front of the post office near Roscoe Village (3635 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657) at 4:25pm on Friday, 10/11, and visited a nearby business. I returned to the bike rack one hour later at about 5:30pm and the bike was gone. My ABUS u-lock had been cut and left behind, presumably by a angle grind saw given the clean cuts to the metal and melted rubber at the contact points

Bike was stolen from storage unit in the basement of apartment building. RECOVERY: The bike was posted for sale on FB Marketplace and recovered! Showed up with some friends under the pretense of buying it, then presented the police report from the theft in October and a printout of the Stolen Bike Registry listing! The guy seemed caught in the lie and basically just walked.

I locked my bike to bike rack in front of Target on State St and Madison in the Loop. I locked it up a couple minutes before 7pm, ran into Target for a few things, and was back outside by 7:15pm. Bike gone with cut lock still there. There is a built in alarm that when bike is moved the alarm chirps a few times. If it is sat on, it continues to go off. Apparently that wasn’t enough to deter the thief.
