Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I got home last night at 2:00 a.m. and left my bike under my back porch, which is behind a garage. The spot isn't visible from the alley; you'd have to go around the side of the building to see it. When I came down this morning at 9 a.m., the bike was gone. This bike is worth almost nothing; I found the frame next to a Dumpster 2.5 years ago and have been riding it hard and leaving it out in the rain ever since. The only remotely valuable parts are the $80 CETMArack and the Shimano brake caliper, but this bike has great sentimental value to me. Her name is Carmen Sandiego.

The bike was stolen sometime over Thanksgiving weekend, 2006. It was locked there regularly, but it must have been targeted. The lock was a cable combination Kryptonite, so chances are the thief had bolt cutters. The u-lock was under the seat (attached to the frame only) and was made by Bell.

Garage door was lifted. Bike was stolen.

All of the residents in my arpartment building lock our bikes in the main hall of our building. But this evening, I got home at 8:00 pm when my bike was still there. At 10:00pm when I went out it was gone. The building I live in has no door man but you can not get in without knowing a code or having a key.

Someone must have cut or picked the lock and taken the bike. There was no evidence at the site. It was near a busy intersection and directly in front of my school (where, just inside, the security desk is located). The lock was a Krypton heavy duty cable key lock. It was stolen somewhere between noon and 4 p.m.

The thief broke the wooden banister of the porch to which my bike was locked, and stole the bike and the lock

The bike was located in the basement laundry store/room. The last time the bike was used it was placed along the wall without any lock, as the outside door was locked and one needs to go through another door to enter this room. Upon returning to the laundry room a few months later, the bike was missing. Surveying the room there was still one bike(from a previous tenant) and two bikes in the stairwell, only my Trek 820 Mountain Bike was taken along with my yellow helmut. Note: the room can also be used to exit the basement of the tenants first floor apartment. Therefore, understanding only the apartment tenants would have access to this room, I confronted the residents in apartment #1. They claimed they were unaware of any missing bike. I called the landlord to ask if by chance she had taken the bike to which she responded no and was concerned regarding the theft in the building. She promptly wrote a note addressing the seriousness of this situation, the tenants responsibility for guests and required locking of all doors. I have asked for further investigation into this matter considering their bikes remained untouched in addition the person who took my bike even had the audacity to take my yellow bike helmut that was hanging from the handle bars.

My bike was locked to a big wooden support on the back deck of my first floor flat. It was locked with a kryptonite cable lock. A u-lock was attached to the frame, but I had neglected to use that in combination with the cable lock. This is the normal place that I have always locked my bike, but I had planned to bring it inside when I went out of town for Christmas, but I ended up leaving in a rush and did not have time. When I returned, the bike and lock were missing. I left on the 22nd and discovered the bike missing on the 1st when I returned.

i was out in that neigborhood and had a strenuous day. i decided i was unbale to bike home, my body was sore from the days previous and so i left him in the lakeview area in near ann sather's and standard indian cuisine. i went back to the the location the following night and not a single trace of him.

i left my bicycle over night because iw as tired from a long day and decided i could not bike home late into the evening. my body was sore from the night before so i decided to lock it up. i arrived on belmont street not far from standard indian restaurant and my bike was gone-- it's lock and everything.

I have no idea what happened. I have been locking my bike in this location for over a year and thought my lock was secure. When I came out of work one day, my bike was just gone.

Bike stolen from my front porch. They must have climbed my locked front fence and thrown it over somehow.

stolen from 232 s. clark in the loop in front of the bank of america building. Security tape is currently being reviewed by building security. Stolen in the middle of a rain storm so im sure no one was paying any attention

We kept the bike in the small courtyard between the coach house and the main house, under the steps. I know we were silly not to lock it. There are a lot of vagrants in the area and we think one of them might have taken it for scrap.

Bike was locked about noon and discovered missing at 2:15 PM

A visitor to the Working Bikes warehouse left his bike just inside the closed door, the bike was stolen whilst he was upstairs. I am filing this report for him as he hasn't done one, by the looks of it, and may not be aware of this registry? We have his name and 'phone-number at Working Bikes. Update following Weds 11/29 from WBC founder: Friends, On Saturday a bike was stolen from a customer inside the hallway of our Western Warehouse. The police were summoned. This morning when we arrived the bike was in front of the western Store under a tarp. It was locked with an expensive cable. The key to the cable and a penciled note of appology was attached. We called the owner and the police to issue a found report. Perhaps a reading of Crime and Punishment is called for.

Went into Bally's at Century City Mall on Clark. Came out and Bike was no longer on the rack.

Incident just occurred in the southwest lower staircases of 6616 N. Ashland, off the back alleyway. Two bicycles were secured by three separate locks attached to the wood beams of the southwest backstairs. I only happen to notice two of my tires, still locked together, laid on the pile of wood planks. Upon further inspection I found that one of the bicycle frames had been stolen, while the other was on the concrete landing of the building next to ours. The thief(s) were able to remove the bikes by cutting through the master wire lock which attached the bikes to the pole. They were unable to remove the two kryptonite locks which connected the bikes by wheels and the frame of the remaining bike. I can only guess that they were interrupted, or I would be writing you about the theft of both my bikes. I'm trying to be as descriptive as possible so that others can benefit from our loss. Other bikes are also locked up in same area. Just in case, the stolen item is a blue "Specialized' mountain bike with only the handlebars, seat and frame remaining. Someone attempted to steal my bike off a metal pole and my ULock held and the person managed to damage the bike. I had the bike fixed and the ULock wouldn't stay closed so I locked my bike with my roommate's bike on our back wooden deck. The person who stole my bike took my roommate's bike as well, and did so by removing the wood piece to which the bikes were locked. This occurred in July 2004, I thought I would list it anyway.
