Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Ok, Wasn't gonna bother with this, but now that I'm cruising craigslist every day, just noticed another Andersonville broken heart (so sorry, girl) I'll do my civic duty. Mine got angle-ground Friday morning (3/4) just south of Foster and Clark. Description I got was 5'8", khaki hoodie, mocha skin tone, battery-powered grinder. (Guy started, spooked, and came back, loud grinder, witnesses, etc. Receptionist watched the whole thing from less than 15 feet and "didn't realize what was happening." Told me about it 10 minutes after he rode away.) Anyway, it had the nice Honjo hammered fenders, mismatched dark-red Crank Bros Candy pedals (one long spindle, one short), mismatched 105 STI brifters (left lever is black, right is metal-tone), brand-new (that very morning!) brake pads (red on rear, black in front), a really old thin-line Brooks seat, Continental Gatorskin tires (not the knobbies shown below.) Looks new from a distance, very well-used up close. Don't have any pix - base model is below. Feel free to kill whoever tries to sell it to you. Either way, please lemme know. I rode home on Saturday night. I locked my bike where I normally lock it with a heavy duty bicycle security chain. While I laid eyes upon it at least three times on Sunday I didn't ride it. Monday afternoon I leave the house to find it missing. The bike has a ring lock going through the rear wheel so unless that is removed (not that easy of a task) the bike will remain immobilized.

In front of Roosevelt University on Michigan Ave at 3:15 PM on a Friday March 4th. Busy street with constant flow of students and people waiting for bus. Incident took place 20 feet from bus stop. Angle grinder was the tool used on heavy duty bike lock.

bike was locked to a rack in front of an office. was there at 1 PM, gone at 4:30 pm.

I locked it with a cable lock because my U-lock was stuck when I locked it up in the morning at around 8:55 am in front of my office building. When I left work, it was gone. None of the building saw the theft.

I came home from work and found my garage door open. This bike listed and my wife's KHS comfort bike were stolen along with snowblower. My bike is very unique. I am 6'7. It took some time and effort to locate frame that was large enough. Parts were then taken from a blue Fuji Finest. Bike is unique in that colors of seat does not match frame. Frame size is very rare. I came home from work to find my garage door open. I thought it had been closed when I left for work. Not sure if I left open or if someone opened. My bike and my wife's bike( this listing) and snowblower were stolen. 3300 block of Damen in the back alley. My bike (will list shortly) is unique as frame is very large. bike was left outside for about 45 minutes. was stolen around 4:45 pm.

I imagine they were out looking to steal a bike seeing how it wasn't in a very open spot.

Bike stolen from in front of my house while I went inside to go to bathroom. Missing Gazelle. Keep an eye out. My good friend and companion since I brought back from Amsterdam in 2004. Men's Gazelle Black 3 speed. Great condition. Vintage late '80's. Rear rack. Soft chain and rear wheel covers. Disc brakes. Triple Gazelle bungees. Gold bell.

I was keeping my bike in the secured bike storage room of my apartment complex. I also had a cable lock on it. I went to check on my bike and the cable was cut and my bike was gone.

I walked outside my dorm one afternoon and my bike was gone.

The bike was in my garage and a family member left the garage door (facing alley) open from around 2:00 pm until discovered at around 4:00pm. The bike was visible and not chained. It more or less had a 'take me' sign on it. I know we are idiots. I knew the bike should not have been there in the first place. It is a small beautiful brand new red bike that anyone would be happy have. Including a metal collector for the contents of his truck. Nothing else was stolen-no skis, nothing.

Friend had left outside of his building after lying of the bike's whereabouts. Long story but it should have never been on his front steps. The bike value is not very high but it was a bike I took care of the last ten years and would like to see it back. Call me anytime. The handlebars are very distinct and easy to spot. Not to mention the kickstand is uncommon.

I was swimming at the Pool. Bike locked up at rack outside. Came out and it was gone. Middle of the day.

I have class in a graduate program at the Merchandise Mart. I last saw my bike at 1:30 pm and when I left the building at 6:15 pm it was gone. The thief had mockingly left the link he had sawed through lying right at the scene. This is the important part: the bike lock is THE toughest heaviest bike chain and lock system commercially available. It's designed for MOPEDS. The thief had to cut it with a hacksaw, in broad daylight or at sunset or just after, for I suspect the better part of TEN minutes outside the largest office building in north america (barring the pentagon). It is NOT possible that no one saw this. Shame on the cowardly, selfish bystanders for letting this happen.

Locked bike in the basement storage area of my apartment building, which has a key entry, deadbolt lock after my last ride in early December. I went down on Saturday to put some other items in storage and saw that the bike and the lock were gone.

It was pretty late, and I was on a quiet residential street. I was visiting friends and had forgotten to bring my lock. I took the bike inside the courtyard and leant it against the fence amongst some other bikes that were locked up there, figuring someone would have to be looking pretty carefully to notice it. I guess they were...

The thief dismantled the headset and loosened the front wheel. They also cut the rear brake cable and may have cut the front brake cable as well. Everything else was left on the bike, which was U-locked to a pole. They left the part of the headset attached to the frame but took the fork, spacers, stem, handlebars, brake levers, and front brake. I assume that whoever stole the headset may have stolen it for personal use, as they left the rear wheel which had flip flop hub, and which was not locked. They also left the seat and post, which they would have had the tools to take it off, if they had wanted to.
